Gonder Fasil Kenema F.C. Officially Sends Letter to Eritrea for Permission to Play a Friendly Match with an Eritrean League Team

Following Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed’s visit to Eritrea and peace deal signed between the two countries, Gonder Fasil Kenema F.C., Gonder, Amhara region, has officially sent an application letter to the Eritrean Football Federation for a permission to play a friendly match with an Eritrean team in the premier league.

Fasil Kenema becomes the first team in the Ethiopian Premier League to issue the first friendly match invitation to an Eritrean team.

Yesterday, Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace deal that ended over 20 years of war and bellicosity.

In the letter, Fasil Kenema emphasised the strong and deep relations between Gonder and Eritrea: “Gonder and Eritrea have a long cultural, marriage and economic relationship. There were so many Eritreans investors working in Gonder. Gonder used to be a dry port where over 150 vehicles carrying goods daily headed to Massawa city, Eritrea crossing the city.”

To renew and deepen these relationships as well as sustain the new peace, the Gonder Kenema invited the Eritrean Federation for the first friendly match since 20 years ago.
