Girma Kassa, Deputy Police Commissioner of Addis Abeba and nine other officials of the commission and the Federal Police have been detained in relation to “gaps observed” in today’s terror attack, which occurred during an event held to honour and thank the new Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
A native of Addis Abeba, Girma was only out of school when the TPLF/EPRDF regime came to power in 1991. “Due to his blood lineage from the TPLF/EPRDF wing, Girma has been one of the key people of Addis Police. He has been also involved in several kinds of prisoners’ abuses and crimes.” sources said.
The state tv, ETV reported that more people, who have connection with the incident will be detained after investigations.
Over 100 people have been injured during the attack today.
Most analysts are treating today’s attack as an assassination attempt on the new PM Abiy Ahmed.
