Sudanese President Bashir has Today Accepted Ethiopian PM Abiy’s Call to Release All Ethiopians Held in Sudanese Jails



Ethiopia and Sudan have agreed to jointly develop and manage Port Sudan.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, who arrived in Khartoum for a two-day working visit yesterday, held talks with President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan on bilateral and regional issues.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, issued a joint press conference today following the discussion.

According to him, the two countries have agreed to immediately implement the agreement reached between the two countries in developing and jointly managing the port.

Ethiopia has been using the port of Sudan as a gate for its northern and north-west parts.

President Al-Bashir also reiterated his country’s commitment to a win-win approach regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), he said.

The two leaders have also agreed for free trade agreement at border areas to strengthen the people-to-people relations between the two nations, according to the Dr Workneh.

The Sudanese President also accepted Prime Minister Dr Abiy’s request for the release of Ethiopians jailed in Sudan prison for various reasons.

The two leaders also agreed the prisoners to be released immediately, according to Meles Alem, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
