Journalist Temesgen Desalegn, who was arrested along with 10 other political activists and bloggers last Sunday March 25, 2018, has been taken to Zeweditu Hospital’s Emegrency Department after he had fallen ill today. The bloggers jailed with Temesgen in the cell are also unwell, we have learnt.

Journalists Eskinder Nega, Temesgen Dessalegn, our own blogger Zelalem Workagegnehu, bloggers Mahlet Fantahun, BefeQadu Z. Hailu, and politicians and activists such as Andualem Arage, Woineshet Molla, Addisu Getaneh, Yidenehackew Addis, Sintayehu Chekol and Tefera Tesfaye  have been held in a small squalor prison cell in Nefas Silk police station with other 80 suspects detained from several parts of the country. They have not been charge or even brought before the court so far.

According to Temesgen’s brother, he was first taken to a local clinic but the clinic refereed Temesgen to Zewditu Hospital because of the “seriousness of the illness.”

The public figures had asked their supporters to let the world know about the condition they are being held.

Ethiopian activists held a hashtag campaign on Twitter calling for the release of the bloggers and journalists yesterday.

We are demanding again the international community to call the military Command Post ti Immediately FREE these rights activists.
