The prominent Ethiopian poet, educator, journalist and philosopher, Solomon Deresa, has passed away at the age of 80 in Minnesota, USA. His remain will be cremated on Saturday, the Voice of America (VoA) Amharic reported.
Solomon had taught Philosophy, Comparative Religion and a course on Myth and Mythology at the State University of Minnesota.
He was born in Chuta District, Wellega, Ethiopia.
His article biography on Project Muse states ” He has written articles on art and culture, for example, in French, English, and Amharic. He is author of a number of poems, including “Sebet Ilfitu: Walotat.” His first book of poems, L’jnnet [Youth] has been described as a turning point in modern Ethiopian poetry.”
Solomon is survived by his daughter, Gelani.
