Ethiopian Activists Flood Congressman Kevin McCarthy With Calls After he Delayed Voting on HR 128

Kevin Owen McCarthy, the Congressman of the United States House of Representatives for California’s 23rd district and as the House Majority Leader, is the target of successive phone calls from Ethiopian-Americans after he reportedly “postponed the voting on HR 128 Resolution on Ethiopia.” According to the the Ethiopian American Council the House was set to vote on on HR 128 (2017), a resolution supporting respect for human rights and encouraging inclusive governance in Ethiopia, on October 2, 2017.

However, the Council says, due to the orders of Congressman Kevin, the voting was postponed for another day. The Council said the voting was also pulled off due to “heavy handed lobbying of Ethiopian regime’s lobbyists.”

The Council also lists steps that Ethiopian Americans within the constituency of Kevin and all over America should take.

Introduced by Congressman Chris Smith, the Resolution calls for an inclusive government in Ethiopia and also targeted sanctions against select Ethiopian government officials.
