UN Human Rights Chief to Visit Ethiopia Next Week

AddisAbaba April 28/2017 UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, will officially visit Ethiopia at the invitation of the government from May 2 to 4, 2017, according to African Press Organization (APO).

The commissioner is expected to meet national and African Union leaders, including Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives Abadula Gemeda, and other high-ranking Ethiopian officials.

APO said Prince Zeid will in addition meet with Ethiopian Human Rights Commissioner Dr. Addisu Gebre-Egziabher, members of Ethiopian civil society organizations and political parties.

During his visit, Zeid is scheduled to hold discussions with leading African Union Commission officials, including AU Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.

His talks with African Union officials will focus on plans to reinforce coordination between UN and AU on human rights, in line with other recent steps to strengthen their partnership, APO stated.
