Addis Ababa June 23/2016 The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) today’s approved the appointment of new President and Vice-President for the Federal Supreme Court.
The House approved the appointment of Dagne Melaku and Tsegaye Asmamaw as President and Vice-President, respectively.
According to the Ethiopian Constitution, the President and Vice-President of the Federal Supreme Court shall be appointed by the House upon the recommendation by the Prime Minister.
Dagne Melaku, who is appointed as President, has served as a judge at various levels of courts in Addis Ababa, including the Federal Supreme Court.
The Vice-President, Tsegaye Asmamaw, has also served as a judge at various levels of courts in Tigray Regional State and Addis Ababa, including the Federal and State Supreme Courts.
The House has also approved the appointment of 34 judges for the Federal Supreme Court, of which 12 are females.
