Alistair Brownlee to run Great Ethiopian Run 10km

Friday 21st November 2014

Billed as the biggest road race in Africa the Great Ethiopian Run on Sunday 23rd November will see around 40,000 runners taking on the 10k in the 14th year of the event. The event takes place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and one of the founders of the race is running legend Haile Gebrselassie. As you can imagine with Halie involved, the race attracts a lot of the worlds best runners and tackling the event this year is Olympic Triathlon Champion Alistair Brownlee, who has said a number of times that he would like to do more competative road running. As well as a room full of triathlon trophies, Alistair has also had a couple of goes at running on the road and track and has a 10k PB of 28:32:48, set in US at the Payton Jordan Invitational (HERE).

From speaking to Alistair on the plane, it would appear that he is not looking to race the 10k competitively and, looking through the results of the last 14years, he would have a job on his hands to stop the Ethopian’s taking the win even if he tried. Alistair is looking forward to experiencing the race and also doing some training in Ethiopia (and no doubt taking advantage of the fact that he will be at 8,000ft above sea level).
