Two weeks after the Ethiopian Federal Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (FEACC) arrested top Ethiopian tax officials and mega businesspeople, it has now moved to the Benishangul Region to arrest the Region’s officials, State Media sources said.

Accordingly, Habtamu Abera, former House Speaker of the Asosa City Administration and Yasin Ashenafi, former Mayor of the Assosa City have been detained by the Region’s Anti Corruption Commission yesterday. In addition to these two, six other unnamed officials have reportedly been detained today.

The suspects are reportedly detained for unfairly rationing the Region’s land for investment and distributing it among their families. They are also accused of “land grab”.
